Dr. Robert Page and Dr. Preetha Chally are happy to be able to offer root canal therapy for our patients with extensive damage to a tooth in their smile. A root canal has historically gotten a bad rap, as people fear it may be painful. However, this endodontic procedure–which safely replaces the parts within the tooth (pulp and nerves) suffering from infection–is no more uncomfortable than receiving a dental filling.

However, this endodontic procedure–which safely replaces the parts within the tooth (pulp and nerves) suffering from infection–is no more uncomfortable than receiving a dental filling. Like a dental filling, a root canal restores the tooth to its full function and appearance. It also saves the tooth from dying and saves you from extracting the tooth.

So what can you expect with a root canal procedure? First, our skilled dentist will carefully remove all of the infected tissue and thoroughly clean it out. Next, the area will be sealed with a rubberlike material called “gutta-percha”. Filling the space with gutta-percha keeps out bacteria. Finally, the tooth will be capped, most likely with a dental crown. Once the restoration is complete, the tooth will look as good as new!
